Just Magic and Little Cindy provided Pamela and Paul Braddon with a first in racing when they dead heated at Dubbo’s Dawson Park on Friday night.

Just Magic and Little Cindy shared the spoils in the Dubbo Mayor’s Cup Final (516m), officials unable to declare a winner from a photo after the kennelmates stopped the clock in a slick 29.98s.
Pamela Braddon stated that she’d never witnessed two of her greyhounds dead heat a race during all her years in the sport.
“I do recall dead heating at Bathurst. Never two of mine though,” Pamela said.
Watching from the boxes, Pamela said she had thought Just Magic had pipped a flying Little Cindy, however a closer look revealed the duo had passed the winner’s post at the exact same time.
Just Magic, from box four, took an advantage into the straight, however Little Cindy sparked a thrilling finish flying home in the pink rug and forcing the officials to check the photo.
The Raymond Smith-trained Midnight Treat spoiled a Braddon trifecta by edging Spring Jazz for third.
“I thought the blue [Just Magic] had got it but they couldn’t decide from the photo so I was a bit shocked. That was the box Cindy wanted and she was coming fast. I was surprised by him [Just Magic], he hasn’t got the experience of Cindy. It was good,” Pamela said.
Prior to the race, Pamela said she had thought Little Cindy was the one to beat.
“They’ve been saying her form has been ordinary but she doesn’t want one, two, three or four she wants six, seven and eight because when she hits the bend she wipes them off the track,” Pamela said.
“Spring Jazz missed the kick. We were running one, two, three at one stage until the stayer [Midnight Treat] came through. Anyhow it was good.”
Just Magic and Little Cindy shared the $4000-to-the-winner prize.
The Braddons were forced to scratch kennel-star Falcon’s Fury from the race after a midweek vet check discovered he was dehydrated and carrying a viral infection.
Falcon’s Fury, this year’s Dubbo Gold Cup and Bathurst Gold Cup winner, loomed as the one to beat in the Mayor’s Cup Final, however he will be rested for a few weeks.
“If you had seen his last few races he’s been ordinary. He’ll be over it in two weeks and he’ll be back to his old self,” Pamela said.
“Where he was usually leaving them for dead he just wasn’t and I was beginning to wonder. But he’ll be back.”
The Braddons have nominated for races in Dubbo this Friday.
They’ll be following the best eight races in the central west until Falcon’s Fury is recovered and ready for a trip to Wentworth Park in the new year.
