Trainer Robert ‘Gummy’ Toomey and his team have taken fighters from New Zealand, to Tasmania, Queensland, Melbourne and a stack of places in between.
“We’re counting down the days (until a Christmas and New Years break), to be honest, but it’s going to be good to finish the year at home,” Toomey said.
Most of the gym’s star pugilists will be in action on Saturday, with plenty of attention set to be on the bouts involving title-holders John Hill Jnr, Enja Prest and Hunter Barnes.
Each face difficult bouts and Toomey said Hill and Barnes in particular will need to step up against opponents with impressive records.
As well as that trio, a big crowd is expected to watch Dubbo CYMS rugby league player Wade Kavanagh and Nathan Ryan make their debuts.
Toomey, as well as his offsider Graham Wallace, have been impressed by both in the build-up to the fight night and they will feature on what is a strong 18-fight card.
“The card is really good and there’s some great fights on there,” Toomey said.
“The main one for the night is between Oscar Doane and Jack Moore and they’re both good fighters who are experienced and they’re going for a NSW state title.”
Toomey expects there to be close to 600 people in the crowd to watch on, making it a night to remember for many of those who will step in the ring.
“A lot of them are talking about shame and getting embarrassed but I’ve told them that all these people are there to support them win, lose or draw,” Toomey said of fighting in front of a bumper crowd.
“They should enjoy it. No matter who we put on the locals bring a crowd and it will be big … we’ll get 500 or 600, no worries.”
Others who will step in the ring on Saturday night include Nathan Newman, Camerno Gaydon, Brad Mills-May, Jayden Buan, Wes Kelly and more.
Toomey added one of the real positives of the night will be the four female bouts.
“Normally you only get one here or there but to get four is great and it will be interesting to see how they go,” he said.
Two-hundred early-sale tickets are available at the Garden Hotel for $25 while people can also buy them at the door on the night for $35.
All of Toomey’s fighters will have roughly six weeks off after Saturday.
