In fact, he’s a big fan of stage three redevelopment because it has brought the medical administration team together.
Mr Barnes and his colleagues have moved to the hospital’s former maternity unit after its extensive refurbishment and renaming as the Ian Locke Building.
Previously, they were “split up” and making the best of cramped conditions in the bowels of the hospital.
“It’s easier to communicate with colleagues,” he said from his new desk. “If you are unsure of something you can quickly turn around and talk to them.”
Mr Barnes said working in the building boosted “productivity and efficiency”.
It also helped in “developing good working relationships” with other teams using the offices, education, meeting and training rooms in the building.
“Sometimes you might only email someone for months at a time, so it’s good to have everyone together,” Mr Barnes said.
