In his second start since making the move west from the stables of Michael, John and Wayne Hawkes, Legerity cruised to a three-quarter-of-a-length win in the John Davis Motors Couontry Class 2 Plate (1000m).
A horse which had previously received warnings for being fractious in the barriers, things didn’t go for Legerity in the first start under Nestor at Wellington but there were no such issues at Towac Park.
“Pete’s done a good job with him,” jockey Anthony Cavallo told Sky Thoroughbred Central after the win.
“He was feeling much better second-up and drew better. He didn’t get away well and never had any confidence (at Wellington).”
Legerity jumped as an $8 chance and led early from favourite Our Dasha ($1.95).
Those set the pace and led the field into the bend, with Nestor’s Snitzel gelding holding a two-length lead.
Cavallo felt Legerity tired in the straight and Our Dash loomed late but it wasn’t enough.
London Cab ($15) was third.
“He jumped well today and he’s got a bit of ability,” Cavallo said.
“He might have had some issues before but today he was right as rain.”
Legerity was Nestor’s sole hope in Tuesday’s eight race meeting.
