The Crackerjacks went down to the Western Plains Automotive Cougars on the opening night of the Twenty20 season while the Blasters had to settle for a draw after their first game against the Rugby Liberty OneSteelers had to be abandoned due to rain.

The two meet under lights on Friday in what is their second of five regular season matches this season.

The Crackerjacks never got going in their match against the Cougars.

A solid effort in the field saw the Cougars dismissed for 132 but no batsmen was able to support Ed Haylock in the chase.

Haylock made 54 but no other player could make 20 as the Crackerjacks fell just four runs short.

The batting lineup has fired regularly in the RSL-Whitney Cup with Haylock, Ricky Medway, Jason Green, Angus Cusack and Dan Medway all among the runs while the side has been boosted in recent weeks with the return from injury of Keiran Brien.

For the Blasters, it is uncertain at this stage if the side will name its Orana Outlaws stars.

Jason Ryan, Greg Buckley, Darrel Williams and Tom Atlee will all miss Saturday’s Whitney Cup match as they will be traveling to the SCG for the Plan B Regional Bash finals while Marty Jeffrey has departed to play grade cricket in Sydney.

The Outlaws players are likely to line up, however, if they don’t there is still plenty of firepower in the shape of Wes Giddings, Chris Morton and Tim Howarth, who has received Twenty20 call-ups in recent seasons.

Friday’s match starts at 6.30pm.
