Dubbo Regional Council mayor Ben Shields says he is ‘happy to respond’ to an inquiry into the termination of former general manager Mark Riley.

On Tuesday Dubbo MP Troy Grant said he had written and spoken to Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton to make her aware of the issues and nature of complaints raised by ratepayers.

“My office has been inundated with complaints, in writing, in person and via phone raising serious concerns regarding the manner in which Dubbo Regional Council dealt with the termination of the contract with former general manager Mr Mark Riley,” he said.

Cr Shields had only a short response to the referral.

“I am aware the Office of Local Government has been asked to make inquiries of Council. Council will be happy to respond to an inquiry on this matter, or any inquiry received from the Office of Local Government,” Cr Shields said.

Mr Grant said Ms Upton advised him that she had asked the Office of Local Government to make enquiries into the matter to ensure council complied with the relevant requirements under the Local Government Act 1993.

He said Ms Upton would advise him of the result of the inquiries.

Mr Riley was general manger of Dubbo Regional Council – and Dubbo City Council – for 13 years.
