Some of the central west’s most exciting young artists have put works on display at this year’s Cowra Regional Art Gallery annual youth art exhibition, which was opened on Saturday night.

The exhibition consists of works by young artists in Years 10, 11 and 12 from high schools in the central west.
A mixture of works in categories including painting, drawing, mixed media, photography and sculpture are on display.
At the the official opening on Saturday night at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery, judge Michelle Coombes congratulated each student on their respective works.
Many of the young artists were in attendance.
“I acknowledge the bravery of these student who have really engaged with the creative process and have produced powerful, engaging and meaningful representations of their work,” judge Michelle Coombes said.
“It’s a really great show I’d like to congratulate all of you.”
Winning art works were recognised for each year group by Ms Coombes, and a number of highly commended awards were also handed out.
Cowra High School student Ellie White collected the highly commended prize for the Year 10 category.
“I’ve decided to award a highly commended awards in this category to reward the artist for taking risks.
“These types of works don’t usually win popularity contests but I’m impressed that it acknowledges an appreciation to art history which is one of my passions,” Ms Coombes said.
Will Hazard of the Dubbo School of Distance Education took out the top prize in the Year 10 category.
Cowra mayor Bill West officially opened the exhibition on Saturday night and congratulated the young people on the work they’d put on display.
“You really have some talent which is special,” Cowra mayor Bill West said at the exhibition opening.
“I’d really encourage you to follow your artistic careers whether they become professional or just a hobby.
“Continue to think outside the square, challenge yourself and enjoy it,” he said.
The exhibition continues until Sunday, December 10.
This year marks the 14th edition of the event, giving young artists in the central west a chance to have their work on display at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery.
