The Orana Relay For Life – which was held October 28-29 at Barden Park in Dubbo, has raised an incredible $50,163, with a few more teams still finalising their banking.
Although the committee didn’t reach their $70,000 target, they still wished to thank the incredible fundraising efforts of the dedicated teams involved, as well as support from the Orana community.
Orana Relay For Life chairperson Jason Dearmer said the event had an incredible vibe and the atmosphere was amazing.
“It was unfortunate that we were unable to finish the Relay and hold our closing ceremony, however the teams were amazing and we couldn’t be more thankful for all of the wonderful efforts everyone put in,” Mr Dearmer said.
Funds raised from the event will go towards ground breaking research, advocacy, as well as prevention and support programs in the local Orana Community.
Katherine Hodges, Community Relations Coordinator at Cancer Council NSW Western Region said not only does the money raised help to fund and conduct world class research, the money raised through Orana Relay For Life also helps by supporting people as they navigate the cancer journey.
“From these amazing fundraising efforts, we were able to continue providing financial assistance and legal services to local people who are financially disadvantaged through their cancer diagnosis,” Ms Hodges said.
“We also connect local people with cancer nurses and psychologists through our 13 11 20 support line, and we receive hundreds of calls from people in the Orana area every year.”
Ms Hodges said the service is important as it ensures no-one faces a cancer diagnosis alone, and the people are connected with the information and support they need at the right time during their diagnosis.
Cancer Council NSW and the Orana Relay For Life volunteer organising committee would like to thank the Orana community for their continued support of Orana Relay For Life.
