Sofala CAS member and event organiser Ken Smith dropped Dubbo Catches this great report on how the weekend unfolded: “Well what a fantastic weekend, Friday night watching the sky for the promised rain , black clouds lit up by electricity put on a fantastic lightning display over the Turon Hills, with the smell of impending rain in the air so sweet in the nostrils.
Saturday morning we awoke to the drumming rain on the iron roof. Heavy rain fell till well past lunch time, water sheeted in paddocks and filled the gullies, a very welcome drink indeed. Saturday afternoon the fish started to roll in.
The carp were very active through the rain and overcast day, the rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of many keen anglers.
Sunday was very pleasant day which saw many out on the river, but the carp had become wary compared to the wet Saturday.
By Sunday afternoon 212 carp had been registered and many more caught in areas too far to carry out were left to feed the eagles , crows , fox’s , goanna’s and the scores of meat ants .
Thank you to all those who attended and supported this, our ninth Sofala Carp Blitz, it was a fantastic success , we gauge our success by how many smiling children sit before the registration desk beaming.
To all the mums, dad, aunties, uncles, grandparents and others who brought the kids along , we applaud you . For those who just attended to support us again please accept our thanks.
For those champions who cleaned up so many of the messy campsites that were left prior to the Carp Blitz you are worth your weight in Turon Gold.
To see the camp sites immaculate today was so pleasing.”
