Everingham has major gear troubles during the sixth and final round at Tirrawanna’s Wakefield Park on Sunday but he managed to finish third in his class.
That result was good enough to see him finish the season as the overall Class C champion.
The St John’s student and #31 Osborne Motorsport Renault Megane driver saw his teammate and co-driver Calum Jones run into the back of another car during his stint behind the wheel on Sunday, meaning there was plenty of work for him to do when he got into the hot seat.
“It was definitely an interesting race,” he said on Sunday.
“We started out pretty well and then Calum started having issues with the gear shifts and unfortunately he missed third gear and it caused a collision with the other C Class Mazda.
“Fortunately it didn’t cause any major mechanical damage. When I got in the car, it was a really big challenge as I was only left with third and fifth gear, so I had to really stretch out third to try and maximise fifth.”
Everingham showed plenty of class and maturity behind the wheel as he went on to score a third-placed finish in his class.
The winner of the Class C division of the race was the sister entry of the #13 Osborne Motorsport Renault Megane of Colin Osborne and Hadrian Morrall.
Everingham’s Class C Cup win capped off not only a succesful debut season but also a strong year behind the wheel.
The talented youngster also competed in the Formula 4 series again this year and finished that competition sixth overall.
“It is a great experience (to take the title),” Everingham said.
“It is definitely good to take it out in my first year in the production car series.
“I haven’t had much luck in any other series this year so it is good to get at least one.”
Sherrin brothers Grant and Iain Sherrin scored two wins on the weekend to claim the Australian Production Car Cup for outright and Class A1.
The #18 Sherrin Racing BMW M4 lead home the #66 FullGas Racing Subaru WRX Sti of Lachlan Gibbons and Dimitri Agathos and the #444 Property Investment Store BMW1M (Anthony Soole/David Giugni).
The Class B1 race and APC cup winning #48 Scott Gore/Patrick Galang BMW 135i was fourth after starting from the rear of the grid, while Osborne and Morrall rounded out the top five.
