Pride Out West will screen on ABC iview and potentially on ABC Television.
Filming for the documentary will wrap up on Saturday at the third and 2017 Central West Pride March after months of pre-production including in-depth interviews with members of Dubbo’s gay community.
The majority “yes” vote in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey may fast-track the editing of the 10-minute documentary which will portray Dubbo as welcoming, inclusive and growing.
Pride Out West was launched with a Create NSW grant, one of 10 distributed to regional filmmakers working in teams.
A dozen Dubbo businesses sponsored a fundraiser at the Quality Inn Dubbo on Wednesday night.
Driving the project is Dubbo resident Kellie Jennar and Wellington-born Alison Plasto.
Ms Jennar is the documentary’s writer/producer and Ms Plasto its director/director of photography.
The documentary’s “core team” (pictured right) also includes Dubbo’s Milena Sallustio, who will be operating one of three cameras at the march. The team is being mentored by staff of Create NSW and the ABC.
Ms Jennar said the march was the catalyst for the documentary that will reveal Dubbo to have “cosmopolitan” elements that complement its country origins.
“What we are really trying to capture in this documentary is the welcoming and diverse nature of Dubbo...and the pride march showcases that,” she said.
Dubbo residents interviewed to date are Nic Steepe, Kris Stevens, Bizzi Mason, Kerrieanne Nichols and Carolyn Rowe.
