Each of the club’s coaches from 2017, a season in which CYMS won three Group 11 titles, will again be on board next year.
Walkom was delighted to have Tim Ryan confirm he will be back for a sixth season at the helm in first grade while all lower grades coaches will also stay the same.
Joel Rapley and Nick Wilson will coach reserve grade while it will be Bernard Wilson in the under 18s and Gerry ‘Chicka’ Merritt in league tag.
“It reinforces the stability at the club,” Walkom said, his side confirming coaches and more at the recent AGM.
“The coaches are enjoying it and the players are too and that’s a good sign for us heading into 2018.”
While the coaches are set in stone, the same cannot go for the playing roster.
The bulk of the roster should stay the same, according to Walkom, while there was no major recruits at this stage.
In what Wakom described as the “silly season” his club has been linked to a number of players but he was adamant neither former Narromine captain-coach Luke Thompson or former Fishies premiership winner Blake Tremain-Cannon had linked with the club for 2018.
Both had been rumoured to have joined the green and whites but Walkom said that wasn’t the case, but did add he wasn’t “privy to all the negotiations” at the club.
“I’d be happy to see a player like him (Luke Thompson) in green and white, as I would any good player, but he has not signed with CYMS,” Walkom said, before speaking about Tremain-Cannon.
“He’s been a keen supporter and follower of the club and he does miss it but down to his situation on the farm and work commitments her effectively took a break.
“If he does turn up tomorrow and wants to play he’d be more than welcome but he has not signed with CYMS.”
It also took some time for Ryan, who has now won three Group 11 titles as a coach, to confirm he will go around again as first grade coach.
As he has each year since taking over, Ryan enjoyed a break after the season before getting back to Walkom with his intention.
“Timmy likes to sit back and let the season settle,” Walkom said.
“There was no pressure on him and he had to take some time to look at where he’s at in his life and he’s got a young family so he would have spoken to them.
But he gave it some consideration and said he’d do it again.
“The same goes for Joel and Nick in reserve grade. Nick has a young family and Joel just got married so there was no pressure.
“We’re really fortunate we’ve got the talent and capacity of people we’ve got at the club and it’s something we don’t take for granted.”
