Following on from a successful Derby Day on Saturday at Dubbo Turf Club, Vince Gordon and the club’s staff have been working to get the track in top shape again for the five-race meeting.
Stormy weather on Monday actually helped keep the track in good condition, Mr Gordon said.
“That amount of rain won’t worry the track, we actually would have needed to put some water on it if we hadn’t had that rain,” he said.
“Everyone is really geared up. As long as all the weather has blown through then everything should be great.
“We have full fields and expect the racing to be very good. This is a great event that people put a lot of effort into and the fashions on the field are always well supported.”
Whitney’s Jewellers owner Gina Brown and her daughter Molly are preparing for a fun day and as sponsors of the Fashions on the Field competition, they are keen to see everyone dressed up.
“It’s wonderful to see what everyone is wearing and I love the bright colours that you see at the Melbourne Cup Day meeting,” Gina said.
“It’s a great event, everyone has a lot of fun and I’m sure this year will be no different.”
Ms Brown said she was delighted to support Dubbo Turf Club and said the jewellers had a long association with country racing.
“For many years Whitney’s has been synonymous with supporting a lot of race meetings,” Gina said.
“My father Peter Carolan was a familiar face out at the track as a bookmaker and there’s not one club out here I can think of that we don’t sponsor.
“I’m fourth generation and Molly is fifth generation and we are proud to be involved and supporting the Dubbo Turf Club.”
The winner of the women’s fashions on the field will receive a $150 voucher from Whitney’s Jewellers while the best dressed man will receive a $150 voucher from Sid’s Bottle Shop.
Gates open at 12.30pm with the first race at 1.55pm. Fashions on the Field will be judged at approximately 3pm.
