For the racing fans, seven local races will complement nine events on a massive program from Flemington, as well as other meetings across Australia.
Those more interested in their fashion will be dressed in the traditional black and white, with Fashions On The Field again sure to be a hotly-contested event.
The same can also be said for the Daily Liberal Hot 100, with great prizes up for grabs for the person voted as the best dressed via our website www.dailyliberal.com.au.
If you are planning on having a few drinks, it is best to have a Plan B, and that could involve the shuttle bus service that will run to and from the track.
Pick-up locations include Macquarie Inn, motels opposite Elston Park, motels opposite Brisbane St Caltex Star Mart, West Dubbo Bowlo Hill, the bus shelter opposite Westside Hotel, the Milestone Hotel, the bus shelter opposite the Castlereagh Hotel, the Western Star Hotel, and the Cobbora Rd bus shelter.
The shuttles will run from 12pm until 2pm, with two buses on duty, and will recommence after the final race has been run.
Meanwhile, Orana Local Area Command will have extra police resources around to ensure everyone enjoys their Derby Day.
Acting Superintendent Scott Tanner said the operation will be on par with what gets served up on New Year’s Eve.
“We want people to have a good time, but also have a safe time,” he said.
“We will have a proactive operation in place, not only at the track but at licensed premises throughout the evening.
“There is also a statewide drink-driving operation on this weekend, so highway patrol cars and random breath testing will also be much more noticeable.
“We also won’t be tolerating antisocial behaviour, and I’d like to urge people to make sure that if a friend looks like getting in some strife, you remove them from the situation.
“It doesn’t take much for something to turn a good night into a night that has ramifications, whether it be injury or charges, so we want people to have their wits about them and get themselves and their friends out of any situation that may arise.”
Good fields have been assembled for the meeting, with the first race set to leave the barriers at 12.55pm.
Gates at Dubbo Turf Club will open at 11.30am for those who would like to be on course early.
