Music: Count Us In aims to highlight the importance of music education by bringing together students across the country to sing the same song, on the same day, at the same time.
This year’s song is Shine Together, and kids at Dubbo South Public School were hard at work on Wednesday rehearsing.
The year 3/4 class have already learned the words and some actions, and on Wednesday they gave the Daily Liberal a sneak preview of their performance.
The kids were excited to join with the rest of their school mates – 650 students in total – to sing at 12.30 on Thursday.
Julia Gray said Shine Together had been written by Australian students, who “get together and they join the bits that they write together and then they make a song”.
Jacob Drash said he liked singing because “you get to use your voice and sing all together and join together as one”.
This year more than 3500 schools are set to take part in Music: Count Us In, making it the biggest year yet for Australia’s biggest in-school initiative.
Dubbo West Public School is also set to take part in the event.
Over at Dubbo Public School students are set to sing Shine Together earlier in the day, when they tune into a live telecast with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
