He had no experience riding racehorses but now he is a successful jockey based at Wyong and on Monday he rode Red Knot to victory in the Coonabarabran Cup.
Five-year-old Red Knot was a million dollar yearling who was first trained by Gai Waterhouse at Randwick but now the five-year-old calls the Scone stables of Rodney Northam home.
Northam, who also took out the Cup Day Sprint event at Coonabarabran with Professor Marx, was thrilled to see Lisnyy score another win.
“It was good for Serg,” Northam told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
“He’s had four rides on him for three wins and a second now. The horse likes him.
“Very happy to win two features on any cup day.”
After leading most of the way in front of a bumper crowd, Red Knot ($3.50 favourite) won the Coonabarabran Cup by more than a length from Rockatorio (Rachael Murray, $71) and Present Sense (Peter Graham, $4.60).
Cuban Lass ($201) ran home extrmely well for Dubbo trainer Garry Lunn and was a surprise fourth-placegetter while fellow Dubbo trainer Justin Stanley had Something Borrowed ($5) finish a disappointing ninth.
Earlier, Northam had combined with Greg Ryan, who finished with a double, won the $25,000 Cup Day Sprint (1100m) with Professor Marx.
Ryan persevered with a rails run which eventually came for him and Professor Marx ($6) darted through to score by a neck from Prince Mayted (Belinda Hodder, $2.80 favourite) and Hard Romp (Marnie Toms, $41).
