For more than 60 years The Westhaven Association has been dedicated to providing quality disability services including employment opportunities, living assistance and social support to thousands of people throughout the Dubbo region.
Recognition for that hard work and dedication has resulted in the team being named the Most Outstanding Business at this year’s Regional Australia Bank Rhino Awards, along with a second award as Employer of Choice.
Chief Executive Officer, Christian Grieves dedicated the achievements to the “fabulous staff at Westhaven, the Board of Directors for their thoughtful strategic leadership, and the day to day support received from senior management”.
The win means the passionate enthusiasm and wonderful care provided by Westhaven staff is being acknowledged by many people as the key to our success.
- CEO Christian Grieves
The secret to their continued success was putting their clients first, along with a “deep and passionate commitment to ensuring that people living with disability at Westhaven can live the lives they have chosen for themselves”.
As a registered charity based on members, and with 350 staff, Westhaven care and support more than 200 adults and children with disabilities across the Central West. It is the biggest provider of group home services for adults living with disability in Western NSW.
While acknowledging caring for people living with disability can sometimes be challenging, particularly if those young people have experienced significant trauma in their lives, Mr Grieves explained Westhaven’s direction for the future included better employment opportunities, along with providing an expanded range of possibilities for existing clients and other people living with a disability to gain the services and support they need to significantly improve the quality of their lives.
A major focus will be on making sure rural children living with disability have a place to live that enables them to achieve the most from their childhood and position themselves to get the most from their adult lives.
