Well, organisers of Pink Up Dubbo are encouraging businesses to ramp things up in the next week ahead of the final days of the month-long event which supports the McGrath Foundation.
One of the stalwarts of the Foundation is director Tracy Bevan, and she will be in Dubbo next Friday for an event at the Church Street Rotunda.
One of the nation’s most famous charities, the McGrath Foundation focuses on providing breast care nurses to patients who are battling breast cancer.
Named in honour of the late Jane McGrath and her husband, Narromine cricket great Glenn McGrath, the foundation currently has 118 breast care nurses working under its banner across Australia.
Adam Wells from Elders Real Estate is one of the organisers of Pink Up Dubbo, and he said it was a great coup to be able to get Mrs Bevan to visit Dubbo next week’s event.
“We’ve been in touch with the McGrath Foundation since we started Pink Up Dubbo, and we’re stoked that next Friday from midday we will have Tracy with us as we make some presentations to businesses that have really got behind the concept,” Mr Wells said.
“October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so for Tracy to take the time out of what is a very busy schedule to come to Dubbo is terrific.
“Breast cancer is something that effects the whole community unfortunately. It’s predominantly women but I know a couple of guys that have had it as well, and it’s the families and friends as well as the people who unfortunately get the disease.
“That’s what the McGrath nurses do. They guide everyone through what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, and they are there every step of the way.”
Next Friday’s event will be community focused, with a sausage sizzle, face painting and other activities.
And Mr Wells is urging people to get in the spirit.
“I’ve been to Harry’s Menswear and got hold of a pink suit so I’m ready. Hopefully we get everyone decked out in pink and supporting the event.”
