Dubbo Commonwealth Bank branch manager Mandy McCabe was there to present the grant to Delroy campus Girls’s Academy students on Friday, October 20.
Program manager of Girls Academy at Delroy Emily Nettle said the grant would be distributed across the three Dubbo College campuses.
“The grant will help us get better resources for the students, including guest speakers to run cultural programs.
“We’d also like to get a gazebo for events we do in the community. The Girls Academy only started this year in Dubbo, so we’re still new and trying to build,” she said.
Since the Girl’s Academy began in Dubbo, the students have found it a positive influence, not only as students but as young women.
“It’s a place where I can go and talk to people, I’ve made new friends and it’s helped me grow as a young woman,” Year 7 Delroy student Grace Monson said.
“I go to classes more.. before I was always late for classes,” Year 9 Delory student Brooklyn Thomas said of the changes she’s seen within herself since being a part of Girls Academy.
Girls' Academy regional manager Louise Lawler said having the program in the schools helps nurture the students into young women, which then boosts their academic performance.
