But on Saturday it was older brother Kyle who had the bragging rights in the Larance household.
While Brock made 62 in his side RSL-Whitney Cup loss to Rugby and father Heath made 40 for the Cougars’ second grade side, Kyle smashed an unbeaten 81 as CYMS White downed RSL-Colts White by five wickets.
Thomas Peacock’s 35 had earlier highlighted Colts White’s total of 9/151 with Shawn Townsend and Joe Kempston each taking two wickets.
Larance put his hand up to open and took it to the bowlers straight away and guided his side to a convincing win at No. 1 Oval.
Newtown Black stalwart Brett Wrigley considered hanging up the boots before this season but his decision to play on proved a smart one after blasting a century in Saturday’s win over Macquarie Blue.
Wrigley hit 16 boundaries in his entertaining 101, leading his side to a dominant total of 6/272.
Sam Jeffries then took 3/26 as Newtown Black kept things tight. The Blues toughed it out and refused to roll over but fell well short, making 9/121. Babu Radhakrishnan (43) top-scored.
Garry Goodman put on a show at Lady Cutler South 3, starring with bat and ball in Rugby Red’s win over South Dubbo. Batting first, Rugby Red posted 203. Getting to that mark was largely thanks to Goodman, who made 68.
Scott Dwarte finished with three wickets for Souths before Goodman took the new ball in reply and went on to claim 3/13 from seven overs, strangling the South Dubbo batting lineup. Shafkat Malik’s 54 was the top score as Souths made just 101.
Justin Gavin and Brad Roberts combined on Saturday to lead Macquarie White to a win over Newtown Gold.
Newtown Gold posted 8/190, largely due to Gary Milliken. Milliken made 93, falling agonisingly short of his century while Ben Calder (4/34) led the way with the ball for Macquarie White.
Roberts and Gavin came together with their side in trouble at 3/14 in reply but the pair added 125 for the fourth wicket.
Roberts made 67 while Gavin kept things together late before falling for 63. In a nervy finish Macquarie White got the job done, winning by two wickets.
Dean Lake and Brady Brooks turned things on for Newtown White on Saturday, leading the Tigers to a win over Rugby Blue.
After James Rootes (70) and Lachie Harper (60) led Rugby Blue to 7/235, Lake opened the batting and got Newtown White off to a flying start.
Lake made 89 while Lachlan Beale (36) chipped in before Brooks took over. Brooks finished unbeaten on 67 in his side’s three-wicket win.
The final match of the round saw RSL-Colts Red down CYMS Green.
Irfan Sagri (73) and Tyler Spang (52) led Colts to 9/229, Brian Carroll’s 3/27 the best effort with the ball.
Sagri then opened took 3/21 as the Cougars were dismissed for 191. Darryl Thompson (42) top-scored.
