It’s set to be the hottest September day on record this region, surpassing the previous record of 39 degrees in 2003.
Dubbo is forecast to reach 36 degrees, according to weatherzone.com.au, while Nyngan and Cobar are set to peak at 38.
The heat wave comes on the back of one of the driest winters on record.
Just 37.8 millimetres has fallen at Dubbo since the start of June. The long-term monthly averages for June, July and August totals 146.9 mm.
