As well as the barbecue, the Uniting Church helpers were also selling plants and produce at the polling booth.
It was something the group said they did at most of the elections. They were set up as the first voters started coming in and remained on site until about 2pm.
All of the money raised went to the church.
Throughout Saturday #democracysausage was a trending topic on social media. Voters from across NSW shared their updates on the best sausage sizzle around.
In response to a tweet from the NSW Electoral Commission on the #democracysausage available in Sydney, Dubbo resident Sally Forsstrom replied: “None at South #Dubbo but great cafe a 10 min walk for my #Coffee & toasted cheese sandwich to break up a 10 hr day helping #voters”.
It’ll be three more years until the #democracysausage returns at the council elections.
