The company will perform Secret Bridesmaids’ Business at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on October 28.
The venture is only the third time in its 48-year history the group has performed on a stage other than Wesley Community Centre.
“The move is definitely not permanent and we will be straight back to our home of Wesley,” president Rhonda Kerr said.
The break from tradition means fresh challenges.
“We decided to give our members the opportunity and experience of the Dubbo Regional Theatre which requires us to think differently about how we approach doing a production,” Miss Kerr said.
“It’s very exciting and a little nerve-racking.”
Although the company has done the show in 2014 it is an entirely new cast with a number of new faces both on stage and behind the scenes.
“How the casting evolved meant that the production itself has evolved differently from when we produced it previously and on top of that when the new scripts came we found that the play had received a bit of a re-write, so that was interesting,” Miss Kerr said.
The show is the story of Meg Bacon, who has waited 33 years for her wedding, her bridesmaids and mum - mum has planned everything to a tee.
Despite its title the company anticipates it would be entertaining to both female and male audiences alike.
“It’s interesting to see the different reactions of male and female audiences so we hope the guys come along as well,” Miss Kerr said.
“There is a bit of strong language and graphic dialogue though, so be prepared.”
An Australian play written by Elizabeth Coleman, Secret Bridesmaids’ Business is classed as a comedy, but it has quite few serious dramatic moments all based around truth, loyalty, sex, love and the meaning of marriage.
