About 32 works, created between 1860 and 1939 and part of the Art Gallery of NSW permanent collection, make up ‘Shaded: The other Australian landscape’.
Ms Moore has curated the new exhibition of paintings, prints and photographs with a view to taking its audience to the “other side” of Australian landscapes, typically “golden and sun-lit”.
Her pick of “seminal artworks” allows in the shade and the chance to feel “other emotions”. Ms Moore said the public had been calling for a landscape exhibition. “I wanted to try a new way of looking at it,” she said.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Sydney Long who painted ‘By tranquil waters’ in 1894. The cost of bringing the valuable artworks to Dubbo is among the reasons why the public will be charged to see the show running until the end of October. Its official opening from 6pm on Friday is free.
