This Sunday thousands of runners, joggers, walkers and wheelers from Dubbo and beyond will take part in the sixth annual Dubbo Stampede, at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

- Dubbo Stampede adds wheelchair event
Since 2012 the event has grown from strength to strength and this year for the first time the course will feature a 5.3 kilometre wheelchair race.
The event’s committee announced the date for the 2017 running festival earlier this year, signalling a permanent shift away from the Fathers Day date it held for its first few years.
Stampede president Rod Campbell told Fairfax Media in February the new the date of Sunday, August 27, fits in well with the rest of the running calendar.
“We had some mixed feedback coming out of last year. Some people loved it on Fathers Day, some enjoyed it the week prior, and we had to make a decision,” Mr Campbell said at the time.
“The running calendar is packed. Two years ago we had events in Bathurst and Canberra on the same date but we think that last Sunday in August gives us the best opportunity to get as many people to Dubbo and the zoo as possible.”
As well as the 5.3 km Wallaby Wheel race, the iconic festival will again include the 5.3 km Dingo Dash, 10km Cheetah Chase, 21.1km Zebra Zoom Half Marathon and 42.2 km Rhino Ramble Marathon events.
Participants will compete for a share in $8500 in prize money, while every finisher will receive a medal.
While there is less than a week until the Dubbo Stampede, Mr Campbell reminded everyone registrations were open until this Friday, August 25.
“After many months of organising we can’t wait to get out there on Sunday and see so many smiling faces taking part in this great event,” Mr Campbell said.
“While there will be plenty of smiling faces, we are also expecting to see some painful expressions as people push themselves to break their personal best times or even a course record.”
