The city’s “Centre of Excellence for Athletics” attracted the Western Area Schools Athletics Carnival this week.
Dubbo’s Macquarie Anglican Grammar School hosted the carnival, held annually since 2012.
The carnival drew competitors aged 12 to 18 years from multiple schools in the Central West.
They include Kinross Wolaroi School in Orange, St Stanislaus’ College in Bathurst, Scots College in Bathurst, All Saints’ College in Bathurst and Orange Anglican Grammar School.
Students contested 100m, 200m and 800m races, relays, discus, shot put, high jump and long jump.
Macquarie Anglican Grammar School reported that participating students displayed “some fierce competition with many races and events being very close”.
“The day was an outstanding success,” its headmaster Craig Mansour said. “We are so pleased that Dubbo’s state-of-the-art athletics complex was able to be used by children from across the Central West.”
