More than 120 junior bowlers from across the state will be in attendance, in what is the second occasion this prestigious event will be held west of the mountains.
Also in attendance will be parents and supporters, state and zone officials, as well as many local fans, keen to see the state’s best junior bowlers in action, ensuring an electric atmosphere will be around the greens.
Although it usually takes four greens to run these championships, the size of the Club Dubbo greens is such that there will be no issue in catering for the 24 rinks needed. Club Dubbo bowls manager Anthony Brown said head greenkeeper, Darren Connolly, along with his hard-working staff, have the greens and surrounds looking a treat, and they are sure to please the young bowlers on the weekend.
There are 16 sides competing from all over the state, with each team comprising a singles player, and a pairs and a fours team.
On the Saturday, teams are grouped into four sections, and following three games, each discipline is ranked from 1-16 and then sectioned into four groups for Sunday, depending on the rankings.
On Sunday, there are two games that will determine the final rankings in each discipline.
First, second and third medals are awarded to each of the singles, pairs and fours, and a perpetual shield is presented for the best performed zone team.
Some of the names to look out for include former Dubbo Railway’s superstar and now a member at Mount Lewis Bowling Club, Jono Davis (Youth Commonwealth Games dual gold medallist), Zac Corr-Johnson (St Johns Park) – current NSW Junior Singles, Pairs and Fours holder, Kate Matthews (Raymond Terrace) – Australian Development Team representative, as well as all current NSW under-18 side players.
Zone 4 is the area of which Dubbo is a part, and they will be fielding two teams on the weekend.
The Zone 4 sides are as follows:
Zone 4 Green: Hayden Barrow (Dubbo City), Leigh Brown (Molong), Tyrone Pennell (Rylstone), Tom Rich (Mudgee), Logan Fraser (Trangie), Tim Walsh (Nyngan), Jordan Thompson (Gulgong). Manager: Glenn Morrison (West Dubbo)
Zone 4 Grey: James Robinson, Cooper McMullen, Jess Ball (all West Dubbo), Reiss Robinson (Orange City), Tom Bowman (Coonabarabran), Lachlan Thompson (Gulgong), Jarrod Kohlberg (Trangie). Manager: Jim Finn (Orange Country Club)
All spectators and players are sure to be well looked after over the weekend, and Brown stated he has a great team of club volunteers on hand to run outdoor barbecues and drink stands.
As well as that, Brown stated the indoor club facilities are more than capable of looking after every patron’s needs. More information can be found on the Club Dubbo website while Anthony Brown can be contacted on 6884 3000.
