Dubbo Bridal and Event Expo draws newly-engaged couples, new businesses

Brides- and grooms-to-be from Dubbo dedicated time to planning the perfect wedding at the weekend, with the help of loved ones and emerging local businesses.

They sought inspiration for ceremonies and receptions, and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Dubbo Bridal and Event Expo.

The 39th annual expo was also a chance for people to check out a new venue, the Rhino Lodge Resort Accommodation and Function Centre on Camp Road.

For some brides-to-be it was their first foray into wedding planning, for others it was a chance to make the final touches before their big day.

I’m surprised at how many people in Dubbo are starting their own businesses, it’s great.

Bride-to-be Kristen Kilby

Newly-engaged Kristen Kilby was at the expo to look at options as she counted down to her New Year’s Eve wedding.

“We got engaged three weeks ago,” she said.

“It’s 140 days away.

“It’s a little bit stressful.”

Mum Shane and sister Jillian were by her side to help.

“[The expo] is really good, there are a lot of local vendors,” Kristen said.

“I’m surprised at how many people in Dubbo are starting their own businesses, it’s great.”

Cassandra Hawke and Matt McFetridge were engaged last month and were at the expo planning a spring 2018 wedding.

Coming along for the day to help was the bride-to-be’s sister.

Cassandra said Matt was more of a romantic than she was.

“He wants to do cute little invitations, and I’m [saying] let’s print them and be done,” she said.

Amber-Lea Ryan was taking the opportunity to look once more at flowers, table decorations and cakes with bridesmaid-to-be Megan Raines ahead of her December wedding.

“It’s been cruisy so far, but towards the end people say it gets a bit stressful,” Amber-Lea said.

“I’m trying not to be.”

Event organiser Jan Grady said she was thrilled to see so many people at the new venue.

“What really impresses me this year, everyone got in the swing of the change of atmosphere we intended to create for this iconic, long-running event,” Ms Grady said.

“It has a beautiful festival vibe.

“Exhibitors have gone out of their way, their exhibits are all on trend.

“It’s all new, there are so many different options, new trends for the modern bride.”
