He’ll take control of his 150th top grade game, when he watches over Cowra’s clash against Forbes on Saturday.
Madden joins just four other referees who have reached the mark.
The 149 games he’s officiated so far have been interspersed with a number of years refereeing in Sydney, controlling NSW Rugby Union Premier and Suburban competitions.
In fact, in the latter, he watched over the Kentwell Cup – the Subbies top grade – grand final two years in a row in 2012 and 2013.
In his refereeing career Madden has also controlled three Blowes Clothing Cup top grade grand finals and Australian Rugby Shield games in varioius states, made several appearances at the NSW Country Championship, refereeing the NSW Country Cockatoos on two occasions, been selected in the Australian Rugby Union developing referee program and gone on an interchange visit with Wellington in New Zealand.
“Richard has made a significant contribution to the [Central West Referees’ Association] as a both a referee, and a coach, over the years,” CWRA president Ian Richardson said.
“He has again stepped into an administrative role as the current vice-president.
“His skills and experience in effectively refereeing high pressure and high quality matches over the years has been used to increase the skills of the members of CWRA over a number of years.
“We look forward to Richard continuing to make a valuable contribution in all facets of our association”.
