Seven days prior his club had forfeited all grades against Cowra, but with a 25-year anniversary celebration and a game against their cross-town rivals, the black and golds rallied to put teams on the paddock.
“It’s been a massive effort by the committee and the coaches, and the players who have turned up today,” Burns said after play had been completed.
“You look at where we were last week to where we are this week, and it shows that the players are there.
“But we need them to be there consistently. We had some new guys turn up this week to help us and hopefully they come back and help the club strengthen up.”
While there are serious doubts about whether the Rhinos will remain in the Blowes Clothing Cup next season, that mattered for little on Saturday night as the club celebrated its history.
“It’s great that we’ve had so many old faces come back today to watch. Even though we didn’t win we played hard and did our best, and that’s all you can ever ask for,” Burns said.
“We have about 160 attending the function so it will be a good chance for us to look back on what we have done over the past 25 years and celebrate that.
“We have three weeks left of this season, and we’ll worry about what we do next season after that but our goal is to put competitive teams on the paddock for the next three weeks and finish strongly.”
