Judge Philip Ingram has taken up the position of permanent judge of the District Court at Dubbo.
He was appointed to the bench last year and has been presiding at Sydney until this month.
Judge Ingram replaces Judge Gordon Lerve, who has moved to Wagga Wagga to provide the Riverina with a full-time District Court judge.
NSW Attorney General Mark Speakman said Judge Ingram would be a welcome arrival as permanent District Court judge for Dubbo, bringing with him many years of experience in criminal law.
“Judge Ingram’s appointment to the District Court bench was announced almost a year ago to the day (28 July 2016) as part of the NSW Government’s $39 million package for reduce backlogs and delays in the District Court,” he said.
Orana Law Society president Andrew Boog was pleased with the arrival of the new judicial officer.
“We welcome his honour, a lawyer of great experience,” Mr Boog said.
“It’s always good when judicial resources are allocated to Dubbo and it confirms we are a significant centre in legal circles.
“The District Court’s commitment to Dubbo is appreciated.
“We look forward to getting to know his honour better and in particular showing him some of the features and benefits of living in country NSW.”
Prior to his appointment to the bench last year, Judge Ingram served as a Crown Prosecutor.
Judge Lerve presided at Dubbo for more than five years and in that time was the only judge permanently based in an inland NSW centre.
