Thousands of roles are up for grabs at GrainCorp as the grain giant fires up its winter harvest regime.
The company says it is looking for more than 2000 people to join their team this harvest.
These harvest casual roles are available across the entire GrainCorp network – Queensland, through New South Wales to Victoria.
Last year’s gigantic 13 million tonne harvest saw 2900 casual positions on Graincorp’s books across Queensland, NSW and Victoria – a 61 per cent boost on 2015-16.
Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences estimated the east coast’s 2016-17 winter crop at just over 27 million tonnes – with GrainCorp accounting for just under half, or 12.9 million tonnes across three states.
Industry consensus is a closer-to-average harvest this year, meaning 800 less GrainCorp positions will be needed across the network. The company is, however, still hoping for 8-10 million tonnes in 2017-18, meaning its 2000 casual positions will be kept on their toes.
“As one of Australia’s largest seasonal employers, harvest casuals play a vital role in our operations,” said GrainCorp’s General Manager Storage and Logistics, Nigel Lotz.
“Harvest casuals will be based in local towns where they will spend time and money, which we know is a welcome boost to local businesses.”
“They work closely with our staff to ensure our sites run efficiently and safely. We have a great induction program that teaches our team members the skills needed to get the job done. ”
Mr Lotz said typically, Graincorp got a mix of university students, international travellers and those generally looking for extra work.
“Last year we received over 12 million tonnes through our network which was a great accomplishment for the thousands of harvest causals who were part of our team,” he said.
“We are an equal opportunity employer, so please feel free to contact us – there are a range of roles available, from grain sampling to general labouring and laboratory support.
“It’s a great way to be part of a team, get technical training and agricultural experience.”
The 2017-18 harvest will be Siobhan Gleeson’s second with GrainCorp.
“It was such a great experience, I am back again!” the Narromine native said.
