With only thirteen hours of practice lessons under their belts, Dubbo's Joseph Morse and Paris Hughes, both 11, have walked away with some amazing results at this year’s NSW Open DanceSport Championships.

This was their first competition and the two dancers were awarded second place in the Juvenile Recreational Open New Vogue section, third in Juvenile Recreational Open Latin and fifth place in the Juvenile Recreational Open Standard section.
Joseph and Paris were among the local Fantasy Dubbo DanceSport team who participated in the state championships. Fantasy Dubbo Dancesport director Cassie Tongue said they were “beyond proud” of all of their students but especially those who danced their first ever competition.
“Joe and Paris only started Ballroom in February this year and only had 13 hours worth of lessons with Kim in lead up to this State titles,” she said.
And despite breaking his arm in a soccer game just weeks ago, Joel Tongue, along with his dance partner Cassie, were awarded second place in Adult B Grade Standard, third in Adult Open New Vogue and seventh place in the Adult Open Standard section.
Anna Single’s stunning performance in the championships resulted in first places in the Adult Recreational best lady Standard and Adult Recreational best lady New Vogue sections. Anna was awarded second place in the Adult Recreational best lady Latin.
It was Doug Moorby’s very first competition and after conquering his nerves he was awarded first place in the Masters Recreational best man Latin and Masters Recreational best man New Vogue sections. Doug also got second place in the Masters Recreational best man Standard.
Orange’s Helen Rutherford shined in the state championships when she was awarded a first in the Masters Recreational best lady Latin and second in the Masters Recreational best lady Standard sections. The dancers will next compete in the World Dance Council AL Luna Park Ballroom Dancing Championships in August. But the weekend before that they will be running Dubbo's 'RETRO' Ball at the DRTCC on Saturday, August 19.
“It will be so nice to dance for our home town, as we don't get the opportunity to dance locally very often. It will be an amazing night! We are bringing back the good 'old fashioned' ball. Everyone is welcome,” Cassie said.
