The Winners of the Ambrose event held on Friday, June 30 were Phil Osborne and John Tooth.
The Golfers’ July Presentation Day will be held on Friday, August 4. The golf competition on this day will be a 9-holes individual stableford.
In terms of coming events, Western District play includes the Trangie Open on July 20, Tottenham Open on August 3 and the Mendooran Open on August 17.
Local events on the horizon include a Horizons Day (2BBB aggregate stableford) on July 28, Hyundai Day on August 11, and Harvey Shield visit to Mudgee on August 15.
There has been some changes to dates of events in August with a 9 holes individual stableford competitions now on Friday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 8.
In terms of major events contested throughout the year, Carl Young leads the overall race for the Craig Mears Trophy while Ron Simpson (495), Rex Currie (490), Doug Butcherine (490) and John Engeler (469) round out the current top five.
The Central West golf Centre trophies donated by Craig Mears is a monthly and yearly trophy based on stableford scores accumulated each Tuesday with a cumulative score kept to determine the yearly winner.
The Clem Long Medal is a point score competition contested all year. Points are awarded each week for attendance, being placed in the top three in veteran events and voucher wins.
Currently, Rex Currie leads the way with 218 points while Colin Gibson (205), John Engeler (204), Rob Hamilton (202) and Carl Young (202) lead the chasing pack.
Progress scores for the Wednesday/Saturday golf competitions are as follows: Max Ellis (25), Terry Sloggett (23), Max Hassan (20), Jim McDonald (16), Graeme Davis (15), Owen Simmons (14), Chris Foyster (13), Lou Doherty (12) and John Espert (11).
The Gold Shirt Award is a contest between the monthly winners and is presented to the winner of the play off in December.
Monthly Gold Shirt winners so far this campaign are Clem Long (December), Keith Prendergast (January), Barry Harbey (February), Allan Clarke (March), Brian Kelly (April), Spence Minney (May), and Rex Currie (June).
In terms of coming events, the August 11 Hyundai Day shapes as a big event.
The first event, costing $30, is an 18 hole 2BBB stableford with a 9.30am shotgun start with prizes including 2 x $200 vouchers for a first placed finish, 2 x $150 for second, 2 x $100 for third and 2 X $50 vouchers for fourth.
The second event, costing $20, is a 9-hole stableford with tee times from 10.30-11.30am while every player who competes on the day receives a ball and stubby holder when they enter.
The Harvey Shield is another important event on the calendar and is on at Mudgee on August 15. An entry sheet is on the noticeboard at the club with the tee off time at 8.45am at a cost of $25.
The Dubbo Week of Golf is also approaching. Competitions will run from Monday to Friday from September 18. Entry forms are available in the club and players are asked to be early and book in. John Dixon can be contacted for more information.
