The committee presented the cheque to Tracy Hanna, the driving force behind the liberty swing fundraising, who said she was completely blown away by the generosity.
“This is a massive help and it just gets us closer to our goal so much faster,” Ms Hanna said.
Dubbo Stampede president Rod Campbell said the swing was a great community project that deserved funding and support.
“Once the swing is set up, it means people in wheelchairs are going to be able to do some things we take for granted, being more active and more included in our community,” he said.
Almost $20,000 has been raised towards a swing.
Mr Campbell said the Stampede focused on inclusion for everyone and that was what had led them to start up a five-kilometre wheelchair race as part of this year’s race on August 27.
“That’s what we’re trying to do with the Wallaby Wheel this year. It’s all about trying to make our event a running festival for everybody,” he said.
“It lines up with what we are trying to do and when we heard about this project Tracy is doing, we felt strongly we should support it because at the end of the day, it’s exactly the same as what we are trying to achieve.”
