The man suffered extensive burns in the blaze, which occurred just prior to 6pm on Baird Drive.
Officers from Orana Local Area Command, NSW Fire and Rescue and the NSW Ambulance Service attended the scene, and the man was taken to Dubbo Hospital before being flown to Sydney.
Orana Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Dan Skelly said the blaze was seemingly caused by an accident involving an electric heater.
“Police have attended a house fire tonight which we believe may have been accidentally caused by an electric radiator,” he said.
“A gentleman has sustained some fairly serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.
“Over the last couple of days it has been really cold in Dubbo and obviously people are looking towards heating up their houses.
“We ask that they be very, very careful with their heating appliances, whether they be electric or gas, and to be especially careful with electric radiators on the floor.”
