Wood carvings by Mal Morris are the first artworks to adorn the walls of a new exhibition space for artists at Charles Sturt University in Dubbo.

The $4 million redevelopment of the “heart of the campus” in 2016 has created the hanging space that head of campus Cathy Maginnis reports is “professionally set up, accessible, safe, crowd-friendly and free”.
Mr Morris’s works went up on Monday and will be on show until August 25. An official opening is scheduled for 2pm on Saturday.
Mr Morris’s works reflect his childhood stories and memories, along with the river and bush in the Dubbo region.
"The exhibits explore the personal nature of marking wood from Wiradjuri country using a deep-V sculpted groove,” said campus development manager Bart Sykes. “These works show the special connection between people and country, and Mr Morris finds deeper meanings discovered through tools, nature and belonging."
The exhibition curator is Jack Randell.
