Emma switched from the violin to the lesser known instrument. It fit her long arms and neck perfectly, the 15-year-old said.
As well as the viola, Emma has been playing the piano since she was five-years-old.
The talented musician competed in eleven sections in the Dubbo Eisteddfod, winning the large majority. She was also the best in the senior piano championship, won the trophy for best overall performance of a Baroque Piano Solo and was awarded the $1000 Daily Liberal Instrumental Scholarship.
Emma said she practiced five times a week for at least an hour on each instrument. It took her months to learn all the pieces for the eisteddfod, she said.
The teenager said she hoped to have a career in music and wanted to attend the Sydney Conservatorium. As for what instrument she would pursue, it was yet to be decided.
The money from the scholarship would go towards her lessons and workshops, Emma said.
