For the financial year to May, $172 million in development has been given the go-ahead by council.
There were 69 development applications approved for the month, bringing the total number of approved development applications for the year to 715.
Both the number of applications approved during the month and the financial year to May are slightly above last year’s figures. In May 2016 there were 60 applications green-lighted.
The applications approved last month were worth more than $3.5 million compared to last year, council’s director environmental services Melissa Watkins said. There were also 15 more applications, she said.
The most commonly approved development application was for garages or roofed outbuildings at 27. Followed by single dwellings. There were also six applications for swimming pools.
Four applications for transport or utilities infrastructure, worth $3.1 million in total, was green-lighted, as was a $1.2 million warehouse and an agricultural development worth $105,000.
Residential development for the year was holding steady, Ms Watkins said.
During May, 18 single dwellings were approved and another four multi unit houses – with a total of 13 units – were given the green light.
It takes the total for the past eleven months to 189 single dwellings and 50 multi unit houses.
Administrator Michael Kneipp said it was also encouraging for Wellington’s development to be about $1.7 million in front of this time last year.
There were six development applications approved during the month. The applications were worth $684,700.
The six applications were comprised of three dwellings, one garage or shed and two subdivisions.
In May 2016 there was only one application approved for a development to change its use.
For the financial year to date there have been 65 applications approved in Wellington. The developments total almost $4 million.
While the number of applications approved last year is only slightly down at 61. The applications had almost half the the value at $2.2 million.
In April this year there were 52 development applications given the green light. They were worth an estimated $13.6 million. They included 17 single dwellings, 17 garages or carports and six swimming pools.
