The Grand Concert on Sunday afternoon marked the end of the $80,000 event. 

The Eisteddfod began on June 1 with the vocal and choral section. From start to finish about 10,000 people have performed on the Dubbo stage, starting with the baby dancers all the way up to those well-versed in poetry.

Dubbo Eisteddfod Committee president Barbara Redgrave said she was relieved it was over, but said overall it had been a very successful event.

“I didn’t see everything that was performed but to me the standard was excellent,” she said.

“We had so many school groups from Dubbo and the surrounding areas participate this year. We had school groups in the dance section, band, choral groups and spoken word. The schools supported us very, very well this year.”

From kindergarten through to senior students, all ages were represented, Ms Redgrave said.

“We’ve had a lot of competitors across the stage. The dance section had quite a few more than last year but everything else was much the same,” she said.

While Dubbo featured heavily in the performances, people travelled from all across the state to be judged in front of the adjudicators.

There are 14 committee members and 150 volunteers on the books at the eisteddfod. And while the curtains have closed on the 2017 eisteddfod, planning for the next event will begin very shortly.

“We have a review meeting within a week of the Eisteddfod’s end and then next month we have to start lining up the adjudicators and the syllabus for next year. We have a little bit of a break but then we’re straight back into it,” Ms Redgrave said.

The president said she was grateful to have such a large number of volunteers give their support to the eisteddfod. She said she was also thankful for those who sponsored the event.
