Erth will bring Prehistoric Aquarium to the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on July 7 and 8.
It’s a companion show to the Dinosaur Zoo which toured in Dubbo in 2015, said artistic director Scott Wright.
“This is the kind of show most people have never seen before,” he said.
Prehistoric Aquarium is three years in the making. It may sound like an unusual concept, but Mr Wright said kids already had a vivid imagination.
“Our job is that we get to bring what they think about to life. They get to look at these creatures and experience what it was like,” he said.
Plus, children really loved watching the old creatures eat one another, Mr Wright said.
The sound and lighting were designed to make the theatre feel as though it was underwater.
“One of the best parts of the show is that we’ve created these puppets that can swim over everybody off stage,” Mr Wright said.
“There are parts of the show where the audience is very close to the action.”
DRTCC manager Linda Christof said the show would provide families with eye-popping visual theatrical experiences.
“You will see giant puppetry, inflatable environments, aerial and flying creatures and even bubbles as the theatre auditorium is transformed into a huge deep sea world,” she said.
Mr Wright said he was very proud of the show and was looking forward to bringing it to Dubbo.
“A few weeks ago a little boy left the theatre crying because he didn’t want it to be over,” he said.
One of the best parts of the tour was taking the show to regional centres, Mr Wright said. While the city was spoilt for choice, the artistic director said regional areas were always happy with whatever shows were available.
Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium will be performed three times in Dubbo. The Saturday 2pm show will be a ‘relaxed show’ suitable for those with special needs or first timers to the theatre, Ms Christof said.
