The luck of the punt was used as a chance to promote Dubbo’s business night of nights, which ironically this year will be held on Friday, October 13.

Dubbo Chamber of Commerce hosted a number of the city’s business people in a marquee at Dubbo Turf Club on Friday, with president Matt Wright officially launching the 2017 Rhino Awards.
Mr Wright said the decision to use the races as the venue for the launch was as much about networking as it was about the announcement of the event itself.
“In the past our launch event for the Rhinos has been a pretty low-key affair,” he said.
“The Turf Club approached us about hosting a race day and we probably brushed it a little bit, but then we thought about it more and discussed it more and it just worked out well.
“It’s a relaxed setting, these people are all busy businesspeople and they can come out for a couple of hours, hopefully back a winner, do some networking and it becomes a worthwhile afternoon.
“The gala awards night is on Friday the 13th this year, which is unlucky for some, hopefully our patrons are having some luck with the horses.
“Business is about luck and hard work so the whole thing ties in well.”
This year’s Rhino Awards will be held at Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre, a shift from the the Dubbo RSL Club.
“The RSL has been great but it’s just about shifting and sharing it around a bit,” Mr Wright said.
“We have made a booking for a very entertaining MC this week, but we’ll keep that a secret and announce who its a little bit closer to the date.”
