Four people, including a man involved in an accident near Dunedoo, were killed during Operation Stay Alert, which ended on Monday.
Combined with 5161 speeding infringement, 247 PCA charges and 302 major crashes, it wasn’t a good four-day period
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, said four lives lost on NSW roads in one long weekend is a tragedy.
“All four deaths over the long-weekend involved vehicles leaving the roadway and crashing, and three of the four crashes were on country roads,” he said.
“While investigations are still in their infancy, early investigations indicate that speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol were all factors in the crashes.
“I want all road users to remember that every life lost is a family member, a friend, a work colleague that is lost forever.
“These four deaths need to be a wake-up call to those who think they are invincible on the roads.”
