Funnily enough, Hooper wasn't completely sure when asked who would call the shots when Moore eventually gets on the field in the second half.

"Haven't discussed that with Cheik. That's probably a good one to get out [of the way today]."

The last thing Hooper needs is to be undermined by Moore.

In 2014, Hooper was a caretaker skipper when Moore injured his knee but with the next World Cup two years away, the 25-year-old New South Welshman needs to be able to stamp his authority on the team.

Whether or not that comes to fruition is unclear at this stage because according to coach Michael Cheika, Moore is "still the captain".

There is a view that Cheika doesn't feel Hooper is ready to lead the Wallabies but knows Moore can't be captain if he's not proficient enough to be the team's starting hooker.

There was, however, an interesting line from Hooper in his press conference on Friday.

"When he [Moore] steps back into the role, I'll be there to support him."

Could there be something Cheika is not telling us or is Hooper too humble to express an inner desire to be Wallabies captain at the World Cup?

The reality is this changing of the guard is in its infancy, so it will take time to get a clear idea of the leadership direction Cheika wants to go in.

2. What areas need to be ironed out before the Bledisloe opener?

You won't hear it out of the Wallabies camp but the Tests against Fiji, Scotland and Italy are dress rehearsals for the main show that is Bledisloe Cup game one on August 19.

Australia didn't have the luxury last year against England to tinker and experiment.

When you are $1.03 favourites with the bookies, it's a different story.

The key areas Cheika will want sorted is the midfield and back-row.

Karmichael Hunt has been given a licence to play his natural game as a second playmaker, while Teviita Kuridrani continues where he left off from the spring tour at No.13.

The problem is that Kurtley Beale and Samu Kerevi are likely to be fit for the first Bledisloe Test, meaning there could be a completely different centre combination to face the All Blacks.

As for the back-row, Ned Hanigan gets a chance to prove he is up to Test level, while Scott Higginbotham, comparatively, has a chance to prove is still up to the rigours of Test footy.

3. Will Super Rugby form transfer into the Test arena?

There has been no indication Australia's Test form will mirror that of Super Rugby because, quite frankly, it is like comparing apples and oranges.

In the Wallabies starting XV, it is difficult to single out a player who has been underperforming at provincial level.

One gets the feeling even if the Wallabies thump Fiji, Scotland and Italy by 20 or more points, no one would be any the wiser as to what kind of form the team is in.

The comparisons, rightly or wrongly, will always be against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the Blues' win over the British and Irish Lions has provided some context as to how polished New Zealand Super Rugby teams are at the moment.

4. How will Cheika's plan of attack change from 2016 to 2017?

There were 13 debutants in 2016 and expect there to be as many if not more this year.

In the first Test in Brisbane against England, there were four debutants (Rory Arnold, Dane Haylett-Petty, Kerevi and Nick Frisby).

On Saturday, there will be another two in Hunt and Hanigan and most likely Richard Hardwick and Joe Powell off the bench.

In the two calendar years following a World Cup, there is always an increase in debutants and Cheika is a coach that thrives on creating depth.

By comparison, in 2012 there were 13 debutants and 12 the year after that.

Even looking back to the Brisbane Test last June, Australia had a combined 827 caps in their match-day 23 compared to 726 on Saturday.

The Wallabies had a shocking 2016, losing nine matches from 15 attempts. Cheika has hinted he believes some players lack ambition, so this year will be focused on breaking down those mental hurdles.

At times last year it seemed like the Wallabies were also unclear about the style of game they wanted to implement.

First it was ball-in-hand, then a distinct focus on territory and then a combination of both. Expect a clearer direction this year.

5. Can Israel Folau get back to his best in the Test arena?

It seemed like Folau was agitated and down on confidence last year.

It has been 11 Tests since he scored a try and since November 2014 he has crossed the line just three times for his country.

There has been a noticeable change in Folau's demeanour at NSW in the past month and there is no reason why that cannot translate to the international stage.

What better chance for Folau to come out and score a hat-trick than against Fiji. Perhaps he needs to play a few teams that give him room to move to reignite the belief he is one of the world's most potent attacking weapons.

Just ask Quade Cooper. "He's done it for a number of years now and obviously there's a big ask of him to step up to international level but he's been able to do that throughout his career."
