Residents passionate about their patch could use the themes of liveability, economy, infrastructure, housing and environment to spark their contributions.
The ideas will be incorporated in Dubbo Regional Council’s new draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan.
It will take the place of Dubbo 2036 and Wellington 2025, the documents prepared by the two respective councils prior to their amalgamation last year.
The council adopted a draft community engagement strategy for the 2040 plan on Friday, and the collection of ideas will start within the week.
Council administrator Michael Kneipp said it was an important process.
“The 2040 Community Strategic Plan will be council’s overarching document from which major capital works, long-term actions and annual priorities to make the local area a great place to live, work and play are established,” Mr Kneipp said.
“The purpose of this plan is to look well into the future and consider what is needed over the next 20 years or more to make the region prosper.
“A new draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan will build on the plans of the two former councils, to ensure the aspirations of the community are captured and priorities established to continue working towards the community’s long-term goals.”
Community engagement for the Dubbo 2036 plan took place in 2011.
Reviews of both Dubbo 2036 and Wellington 2025 showed there were common themes of liveability, economy, infrastructure, housing and environment, Mr Kneipp said.
“These themes will be used to develop the new draft Community Strategic Plan for Dubbo Regional Council,” he said.
The council is encouraging the wider community of Dubbo, Wellington and the local region to participate in the development of the draft plan through a variety of community workshops, group meetings, surveys and public comment.
“There are multiple ways to get involved and contribute to 2040,” Mr Kneipp said.
“An open invitation is being extended for anyone to attend summits in Dubbo and Wellington on June 17/18 and July 1/2.
“There will also be more specific focus groups with a variety of community representatives as well as questionnaires and surveys available through council’s website.”
Engagement will take place during a four-week period starting on Tuesday.
The draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan will be prepared for review by a new council after elections being held in September.
