Ms Drady said she couldn’t believe that she had reached her target and hopes Dubbo and the surrounding community can continue supporting the cause of raising money for Wings4Kidz who transport children and their families from regional areas to major cities to access specialised paediatric medical care.
“People may think that just because I’ve reached my goal that they don’t have to donate anymore, but I hope everyone can still help,” she said.
Ms Drady will shave off her locks at the Garden Hotel on Sunday, June 11 at 1pm.
Her young cousin Sarah, 8, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Wilms tumour in July 2016 and accessed the flight service so that she can receive treatment in Newcastle.
Previously Sarah and her mother Jewell, who live in Mudgee, had to travel by car to John Hunter Children’s Hospital for Sarah’s weekly chemotherapy.
Ms Drady said the long road trip was exhausting for Sarah and the family, who were away for days at a time.
But Wings4Kidz came to the Patterson’s rescue and helped the family out with free flight services.
Knowing just how much the Wings4Kidz had done for her family, Ms Drady wanted to help them in some way, which was how the idea to shave her hair first came about.
Since setting up her page on the fundraising website everydayhero earlier this year Ms Drady has received financial support from $50 to $380.
She said the support has been “amazing.”
When Fairfax Media checked Ms Drady’s donation page on Friday a total of 70 donations had helped raise $6,054.05.
Members of Wings4Kidz will also be at the Garden Hotel in support.
Despite feeling a little nervous about the shave, Ms Drady said she had everything organised for the cooler months ahead.
“I’ve got beanies and scarves so I’m all prepared for winter,” she said.
