Landholders should receive the survey by mid-June in the mail, with it to be returned by July 7.
The questionnaire will focus on a wide range of topics and issues that relate to landholders.
A similar survey was also conducted in 2014 and helped inform the way programs were delivered by the Local Land Services.
Comparing the results of the 2017 survey to those from 2014 will give an insight into the way the region is changing and what that means for services required by landholders in a range of areas.
Local Land Services Monitoring Evaluation Reporting and Improvement (MERI) Officer, Isobel Colson is encouraging landholders to take the time to complete and return this important questionnaire.
“The survey will provide valuable insight into the range of enterprises we have in the region and is the best tool for landholders to inform us of what their most pressing issues are,” Ms Colson said.
“All information provided is confidential and will be used to give Local Land Services a greater understanding of what landholders want from our services and programs.
“We do understand that landholders’ time is valuable, so we are offering all those who complete the survey a $20 IGA voucher or the option that this amount is donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service on their behalf.”
Some of the interesting findings from the 2014 survey were:
- 350 km is the average distance of those surveyed to the closest market for farm products
- 66 % of landholders surveyed run sheep (68 % merinos for wool and meat, 31 % fleece-shedding breeds for meat)
- 50 % of landholders surveyed run cattle, 55 % run goats
- 28 % of landholders surveyed undertake dryland cropping, 8 % irrigated cropping.
