Third bridge over the Macquarie
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian visited Dubbo last week and as part of her packed scheduled announced the location of the third bridge to be built over the Macquarie River. There were a number of options explored for the location of the bridge over the past couple of years as well as extensive community engagement done by the Roads and Maritime Services and it is fantastic to see the state government’s continued commitment to the project.

The River Street option complements Council’s existing 2045 Transportation Strategy and strikes a balance between local users wanting more efficient access to the City centre and highway traffic wanting to access North Dubbo. Stage 1 of the development will see traffic lights being installed on the corner of Whylandra and Victoria streets which will help alleviate traffic build-up that is currently experienced during peak times.
Host families needed for student exchange
Dubbo Regional Council is looking for families who are willing to open their homes to exchange students from China and Japan. Two Sister City student exchange groups will be visiting Dubbo in July and August from Wuijang in China and Minokamo in Japan and accommodation is needed. The Wuijang student exchange will take place for five nights from Friday 21 July to Wednesday 26 July, while the Minokamo student exchange will take place for seven nights from Sunday 30 July to Monday 7 August.
Council is seeking families for two girls and two boys from Wuijang, aged about 15-years-old, and for four or five girls from Minokamo, aged between 14 to 17-years-old. There are two teacher chaperones from both Wujang and Minokamo who will require host families also. Hosting an exchange student is a wonderful way to help out and learn about a new and different culture. If you are interested in hosting a student or chaperone teacher, please contact Dubbo Regional Council’s Sister City Officer, Kylie Sutherland on 6801 4000 or kylie.sutherland@dubbo.nsw.gov.au.
New playground for Daphne Park
The community has spoken and new play equipment will soon be installed at Daphne Park. Council conducted an online poll as well as a paper-based poll at Dubbo and District Preschool to let the community choose their favourite design and after receiving 854 votes “option B” was declared the winner. The new playground will feature design includes a pod swing, accessible carousel, double swing set, seahorse springer, play panel and a diablo multiplay unit. The renewal of Daphne Park playground, which will begin next month, is part of council’s scheduled playground renewals which is aimed at providing better recreational spaces for families in the community.
Tree removal
Trees and shrubs around the Myall Street Reservoir will be removed as a management approach to reducing the potential of birds nesting within the reservoir. The removal of the trees and shrubs will create a vegetation clear zone around the reservoir. To offset the tree removals from the Myall Street Reservoir site, Council has planted three Silky Oaks and seven Lemon Scented Gums at Lunar Park and 12 Silky Oaks in the Myall Street median strip. There is also a proposal to plant additional trees in the lower section of the Myall Street median strip, adjacent to TAFE NSW Dubbo Campus.
