Medley, who also captains the CYMS cricket side during the summer months, was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital after being tackled awkwardly during the first half of the match.
CYMS chairman Kevin Walkom said everyone in the club was praying for good news.
“Ryan has taken a standard hit-up and it’s just been an awkward tackle,” Walkom said.
“We’re praying everything will be fine. He is in the best care down at Royal North Shore and his family were all heading down to be with him.
“Something like this makes you realise that rugby league is a contact sport and things can go wrong, but everyone at the ground was terrific.
“The Wellington people looked after him while we waited for the helicopter to arrive at the ground, and that restores your faith in the game and the rugby league family.
“The Medleys have been involved with CYMS for a very long time, and as a club we’ll do everything we can to support Ryan, his wife and family, but of course we’re hopeful everything will pan out well.”
Due to the precise care shown for Medley, the match was called off prior to half-time and the teams will share the points.
