What can Dubbo do to make sure we are ready to host the Logies in 2019? That’s the question we need to be asking.

When the tongue-in-cheek campaign to #BringTheLogiesToDubbo began last year, few would have believed it would ever happen.
However the state government has realised just how much regional communities stand to gain from hosting high-profile events and that is what sparked the plan to bring the Logies out west.
If it is successful, Tamworth will play host in 2018, with us potentially getting the chance in 2019.
One could argue that given Dubbo started the campaign, it should be given first shot.
However it may work better for us if we have an extra year to plan, and get to see how Tamworth does it first and learn what works well for them.
There are few better opportunities Dubbo would have to promote itself than playing host to one of the most glamorous events of the year.
Getting every major Australian star coming into the city would be a once-in-a-lifetime chance.
Not only would it be a great injection for the city’s economy, but it would provide publicity that money couldn’t buy.
Plenty will say it can’t be done.
They will say Dubbo doesn’t have a big enough venue, or the resources, or it is too far away from a major city.
But some of those who say that are in Melbourne and don’t want to lose hosting rights, or others jealous that they aren’t being mentioned.
Last year on social media, stars like Karl Stefanovic, Lee Lin Chin, Melissa Doyle, Stephen Peacocke, Chris Bath and Julia Morris embraced the Dubbo campaign.
And Andrew O’Keefe volunteered to host the event.
If the celebrities are supporting it, isn’t that what matters most? After all, it’s their awards night.
Who knows, we might even get the Today or Sunrise crews broadcasting live from the city the morning after, or if we dare to dream, for a whole week.
Dubbo MP Troy Grant is behind it and Dubbo Regional Council administrator Michael Kneipp said the city can handle it.
So lets harness the enthusiasm, use the next two years to our full advantage, and get ready for Dubbo to host the best Logie Awards anyone has ever seen.
